COLOMBO, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan Navy arrested 25 Indian fishermen on Monday for allegedly fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters off Kankesanthurai, Jaffna in the country's north, the navy said.
The fishermen had entered Sri Lankan waters on Sunday night, it said, adding that two mechanized boats were also seized.
The fishermen will be handed over to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for further investigation, the navy said.
The navy said it continues regular patrols and operations to prevent illegal fishing by foreign vessels, citing its impact on the livelihoods of local fishermen. ■
