BISHKEK, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyz parliamentarians on Thursday elected Marlen Mamataliev as the new speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyzstan's parliament), said the official parliament website.
Mamataliev was elected by secret ballot after being nominated by several parliamentary groups during a parliamentary session.
Earlier in the day, former Speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu resigned at his own request, saying he would continue serving the country as a member of parliament. ■
