KATHMANDU, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments to Nepal increased by 33 percent in the first seven months of the current fiscal year 2025-26, the government said on Friday.
The Department of Industry said in a report that the pledged amount reached 40.28 billion Nepali rupees (277.41 million U.S. dollars) between mid-July 2025 and Feb. 12, 2026, up from 26.84 billion rupees recorded during the same period of the previous fiscal year.
The commitments cover 524 projects aiming at generating 20,896 jobs, the report said.
In terms of investment volume, the agriculture sector received the largest share of pledges, while information and communication technology (ICT) and tourism were ahead in the number of projects. (1 Nepali rupee equals 0.0069 U.S. dollars) ■
