KABUL, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities on Thursday commenced work on a major road project connecting Kabul city with Bagram district in eastern Parwan province, local media Tolo news reported.
The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, who formally inaugurated the project, the report said.
According to reports, the road will extend 6.2 km and measure approximately 50 meters in width. The project is being implemented with a budget of 455 million afghanis (over 7 million U.S. dollars), financed by the Afghan government.
Speaking at the ceremony, Baradar urged regional countries and the broader international community to adopt constructive engagement with Afghanistan, emphasizing that positive interaction is essential under the present circumstances.
Bagram district, situated in Parwan province near the capital, has historically held strategic significance due to its geographic location and role as a key transit and economic center. ■
