PHNOM PENH, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Electricity demand in Cambodia had risen to 5,932 megawatts (MWs) in 2025, up 14.4 percent from 5,183 MWs in the year before, said an Electricity Authority of Cambodia (EAC)'s report on Thursday.

Minister of Mines and Energy Keo Rattanak said the main sources of electricity are from hydropower dams, solar power plants and biomass energy.

"Cambodia's clean energy has increased from 57 percent in 2023 to more than 63 percent in 2025, making the kingdom the second-highest clean energy rate in ASEAN," he said during the EAC's annual meeting.

Rattanak said the Southeast Asian country aimed to increase its renewable energy share to 70 percent by 2030.

By the end of 2025, 99.1 percent of Cambodia's total villages has access to electricity, and about 96 percent of the total houses in the country are connected to the national power grid, according to the EAC.
