KABUL, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have begun construction of a road linking the provincial capital of Uruzgan to a remote district in the southern province, a spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works reported on Thursday.

The 25 km road, connecting Tirin Kot city with outlying Khas Uruzgan district, will cost more than 601 million afghanis (nearly 9.4 million U.S. dollars) and is scheduled for completion within 26 months, according to Mohammad Ashraf Haqshinas, a spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works.

Writing on his X account, Haqshinas said the project is expected to generate employment for hundreds of local residents and enhance living conditions for thousands across the province. Once completed, the road will streamline transportation, facilitate more efficient trade routes, and stimulate economic activity in the remote area, he added.

The Afghan government plans to roll out additional development, infrastructure, and agricultural projects funded through the domestic budget to address persistent economic challenges and promote job creation across the country.
