TOKYO, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended mixed on Thursday as investors locked in gains after recent surges amid caution about overheating while a firmer yen weighed on exporters.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 10.70 points, or 0.02 percent, from Tuesday at 57,639.84.

The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 26.88 points, or 0.70 percent, higher at 3,882.16.

Japanese financial markets were closed on Wednesday for a national holiday.

The U.S. dollar dropped to the lower 152 yen level in Tokyo at one point as the Japanese yen was bought after concerns about Japan's fiscal health eased with the government pledging not to issue deficit-covering bonds to finance the promised two-year suspension of the food tax.

The benchmark Nikkei gained more than 3,800 points over the past three trading days on hopes for expansionary fiscal policies after Japan's ruling coalition won a lower house majority in Sunday's election. However, the market was pressured by declines in export-related issues amid the yen's appreciation and selling following the rapid rise, analysts said.
