COLOMBO, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- GovPay, Sri Lanka's digital public service platform, has completed one year of operations, recording over 2.7 billion rupees (8.7 million U.S. dollars) in digital transactions and connecting 252 government institutions.
Launched a year ago to streamline interactions between citizens and public institutions, GovPay serves as a centralized digital payment platform for government services. Authorities state that more than 133,000 transactions have been processed through the system to date, enabling 3,783 citizen services across multiple agencies.
According to official data, online traffic fine payments accounted for 121.4 million rupees, with more than 94,000 traffic fine transactions processed through the platform. The nationwide rollout of the GovPay traffic fine payment project was completed on Feb. 3, extending digital payment coverage for traffic-related penalties across the island.
The initiative is led by the Ministry of Digital Economy in collaboration with the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) and LankaPay, along with other partner institutions. Officials describe the platform as part of Sri Lanka's efforts to modernize public administration and expand digital access to government services. (1 Sri Lankan rupee equals 0.0032 U.S. dollars) ■
