KABUL, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- A worker of a mine was killed and another sustained injury as the tunnel of the mine collapsed in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province on Tuesday, said a statement of the provincial government on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Mamandara area of Spinghar district on Tuesday afternoon, the statement added.
In post-war Afghanistan, miners often extract the underground treasures with old-fashioned traditional instruments and lack of safety measures, which sometimes lead to disaster and fatalities.
Previously, a similar accident claimed the lives of three miners in a gold mine in the northern Badakhshan province last December. ■
