KABUL, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's government has approved a national fisheries development plan aimed at boosting domestic production, creating thousands of jobs, and expanding the country's agriculture and livestock sector, the office of the deputy prime minister for economic affairs announced in a statement Tuesday.

The plan, approved during a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, will see the establishment of 7,700 small, medium, and large fish farming facilities on 6,500 hectares of land across multiple regions, according to the statement.

Officials estimate the initiative will create direct employment for 50,000 citizens and support an additional 250,000 indirect jobs once fully implemented, it said.

The policy is part of a broader national strategy to develop Afghanistan's agriculture and livestock sectors, aiming to enhance food security and economic growth through sustainable use of natural resources.
