MANILA, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Two women were killed and another was injured after their motorcycle collided with a van in Quezon province, south of Manila, on Monday, police said.
The collision occurred on a bypass road in Tayabas city when a speeding van struck the motorcycle.
Police said the two riders on the motorcycle, aged 20 and 21, were declared dead at the scene after sustaining severe injuries, while the male driver was injured and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities added that the van attempted to flee the scene following the crash.
The van driver was later arrested and is now in police custody as authorities prepare to file criminal charges in connection with the incident. ■
