ALMATY, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Transit freight passing through Kazakhstan increased by 6.6 percent in 2025, reaching 36.9 million tonnes compared with 34.6 million tonnes in 2024, the Kazakh prime minister's press service said Monday.
The growth was attributed to the integrated development of road, rail, air and maritime transport, as well as continued efforts to expand international cooperation in the logistics sector.
Rail freight totaled 320 million tonnes in 2025, up 5.5 percent year on year, while maritime cargo volumes reached 8 million tonnes, exceeding the 2024 level by 7 percent, the statement said.
Container traffic through seaports rose 29 percent to 90,637 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) while cargo volumes along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route increased by 36 percent, the statement added. ■
