KABUL, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have confiscated a large quantity of illegal weapons and ammunition during a series of clearance operations in northern Afghanistan's Samangan province, the provincial police office said Friday.
According to a statement, the operations were carried out based on intelligence reports in several areas of the province. The seized items included one PK machine gun, several heavy weapons, five Kalashnikov rifles, and hundreds of rounds of PK ammunition.
Authorities also discovered additional weapons and ammunition in neighboring Sar-e-Pul province, which were later handed over to the state treasury.
Security officials reaffirmed their commitment to continuing such operations to curb illegal arms possession and ensure public safety. ■
