COLOMBO, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka has allocated 1.9 billion rupees (about 6 million U.S. dollars) from the President's Fund to provide financial assistance to schoolchildren in districts affected by Cyclone Ditwah, President's Media Division (PMD) said in a statement on Friday.

The PMD said the money has been set aside to distribute a 10,000-rupee grant to each eligible student, with allocations already forwarded through district and divisional administrations.

The government has also arranged an additional 15,000 rupees per student from the General Treasury, bringing total assistance to 25,000 rupees per child, the PMD said.

About 500,000 children were affected by Cyclone Ditwah in late 2025. Over 1,185 schools were damaged, disrupting education, according to official data. (100 Sri Lankan rupee equals 0.32 U.S. dollars)
