HANOI, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's consumer price index (CPI) rose 2.53 percent year on year in January , the National Statistics Office said on Friday.

Price increases were recorded in nine of the 11 categories in the CPI calculation basket.

The rise was mainly driven by higher costs for housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials, as well as increases in prices of beverages, tobacco, domestic household appliances, textiles and leather products.

Restaurants and food services, along with medicine and healthcare services, also contributed to the CPI growth.

In January, Vietnam's average core inflation increased by 3.19 percent year on year, the office said.
