KABUL, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have begun construction of an asphalt road in Dahna-e-Ghori district of northern Afghanistan's Baghlan province, provincial officials said Friday.

According to provincial governor Mawlawi Abdul Rahman Haqqani, the project covers a 17-km stretch and is being implemented with a total budget of 389 million afghanis (nearly 5 million U.S. dollars). Once completed, the road is expected to ease transportation challenges for tens of thousands of local residents.

In addition, construction work on several other key roads across the province has been launched. Some projects have already been completed, while work on the remaining sections is still underway.

The road initiatives aim to enhance connectivity, promote local trade, and support economic development in the region.
