Malaysia's services producer price index up 0.9 pct in 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's services producer price index (SPPI), which provides a measure of producer prices changes within the domestic services sector, posted a marginal increase of 0.9 percent in 2025, compared to a 0.7 percent rise in 2024.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement on Thursday that the increase was primarily driven by the accommodation and food and beverage service activities (3.4 percent), followed by arts, entertainment and recreation index (1.8 percent), and education index (1.3 percent).

Other indices that recorded increases were health (0.7 percent), professional (0.6 percent) and real estate activities (0.2 percent).

In contrast, the transportation index declined by 0.4 percent, while the information and communication index recorded a slight decrease of 0.1 percent.

Meanwhile, the SPPI rose 1 percent year on year in the fourth quarter of 2025, maintaining the same rate for the third consecutive quarter.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the SPPI increased by 0.3 percent, compared to 0.1 percent in the previous quarter.
