TOKYO, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended lower Monday, weighed down by the selling of technology issues to lock in profits.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 667.67 points, or 1.25 percent, from Friday at 52,655.18. The broader Topix index finished 30.19 points, or 0.85 percent, lower at 3,536.13.

On the top-tier Prime Market, the main decliners were securities house, mining and bank issues.

Stocks climbed sharply in the morning, as export-related auto issues such as Toyota Motor were bought on a weaker yen.

However, the market was later weighed down as investors unloaded heavyweight high-tech issues after recent gains and a decline in Nasdaq futures stirred wariness over a fall in U.S. shares, brokers said.
