BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Public Works Department (PWD) has activated its emergency response center following landslides that damaged water transmission pipes in a rural area of Tutong district, resulting in widespread water supply disruptions across the country.
In a press release issued on Friday, the department said the emergency response center brings together several departments under the Ministry of Development, along with other relevant agencies.
The coordinated effort focuses on delivering water supplies via tankers, particularly to water intake centers and critical facilities such as hospitals, clinics, mosques and places of worship in affected areas.
PWD said that as of 6.00 p.m. on Friday, eight new pipes out of a total of 16 required had been successfully installed. Repair works are expected to be completed by Sunday, subject to weather conditions.
Water supply across affected areas is expected to be fully restored by Monday.
Brunei is currently affected by the northeast monsoon. During this period, the country typically experiences unstable weather conditions, with occasional heavy showers or thundershowers. ■
