KABUL, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's national procurement commission has approved 21 infrastructure projects valued at 2.5 billion Afghanis (around 38.5 million U.S. dollars), the office of the deputy prime minister for economic affairs said in a statement late Tuesday.
The commission, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, reviewed 33 proposed procurement projects across various sectors and ultimately approved 21 of them.
The approved initiatives include the procurement of scanners for customs offices at five airports, road construction, design and feasibility studies for a water dam, electricity supply projects, the construction of public hospitals in multiple provinces, and the implementation of electricity transmission and distribution projects in several provinces, according to the statement.
These projects are funded entirely from Afghanistan's domestic budget, aimed at addressing ongoing economic challenges and fostering job creation amid the country's recovery efforts.
Official statistics show that the Afghan government endorsed a total of 562 development and infrastructure projects worth approximately 2 billion U.S. dollars nationwide during 2025. ■
