KABUL, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- An avalanche killed at least two people and injured four others in eastern Afghanistan's Nuristan province, the official Bakhtar news agency reported on Wednesday.
The incident happened when a group of villagers was returning home. A sudden mass of snow slid down the mountainside, trapping the victims under heavy snow, the report said.
The injured were taken to a local health center for treatment.
Heavy snowfall in recent days has increased the risk of avalanches in Afghanistan's mountainous areas, where such natural disasters are common during winter seasons. ■
