BANGKOK, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Thailand launched a commemorative landmark on Tuesday to officially announce the country's readiness to host the 2026 International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group Annual Meetings.
The announcement, made at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, aims to bolster global confidence in Thailand's role and potential as an international hub for economic and financial cooperation.
Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas said at the event that the meetings serve as a crucial international platform for shaping cooperation frameworks and strengthening confidence in the global economic system.
More than 15,000 participants, including finance ministers, central bank governors, financial institution executives, and civil society representatives from 191 member countries, are expected to attend the annual meetings, Ekniti said.
Discussions will cover issues such as economic growth, financial and fiscal stability, poverty reduction, and sustainable development, he added.
As the host country, Thailand has officially introduced its main theme for the meetings as "Thailand's New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience." ■
