NEW DELHI, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Tuesday that the country's energy sector offers 500 billion U.S. dollars' investment opportunities.
Modi made the remarks while addressing via video conferencing the India Energy Week 2026 that commenced in the western state of Goa.
He urged global investors to invest in India.
"India's energy sector lies at the center of the nation's aspirations, offering investment opportunities worth 500 billion U.S. dollars. So my message is - make in India, innovate in India, scale with India and invest in India."
Modi said the country's oil refining capacity will be expanded from 260 million tons per annum (MTPA) to 300 MTPA, and the nation is targeting 100 billion dollars in investment in the oil and gas sector by 2030.
Highlighting that Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) demand in India was continuously growing, he said the country has set a target to meet 15 percent of its total energy demand through LNG.
"India is working to build the vessels required for LNG transportation domestically, supported by a recently launched ship-building program," he said. "Numerous investment opportunities have been created in constructing LNG terminals at Indian ports, as well as in regasification projects." ■
