SEOUL, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's consumer sentiment rebounded on the back of the continued recovery of the domestic economy and expectations for the government's growth strategies, central bank data showed Friday.
The composite consumer sentiment index (CCSI), which gauges the sentiment of consumers over the economic situation, rose 1 point from a month earlier to 110.8 in January after sliding 2.5 points in the previous month, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).
The turnaround was attributed to the sustained improvement in the domestic economy and optimism surrounding the government's economic growth initiatives.
The sub-index for the current economic situation increased 1 point to 90 in January compared with the previous month, while the index for economic outlook gained 2 points to 98.
Inflation expectations, which measure the outlook among consumers over headline inflation for the next 12 months, stood unchanged at 2.6 percent in January on a monthly basis.
The result was based on a survey of 2,254 households conducted from Jan. 8 to 15. ■
