COLOMBO, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's security forces seized a record volume of narcotics in 2025, more than doubling the amount confiscated the previous year, a senior policeman said on Thursday.
Police Media Spokesperson and Assistant Superintendent of Police F. U. Wootler stated at a media briefing that the national anti-drug operation had achieved significant success in curbing the spread of illicit drugs.
He said police seized a total of 10,871 kg of heroin, cannabis, crystal methamphetamine, hashish, and cocaine in 2024, while the figure more than doubled in 2025.
Sri Lanka intensified its crackdown on drug-related crimes by launching the national anti-drug campaign "A Nation United" in October 2025. ■
