KATHMANDU, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Nepal witnessed year-on-year growth in foreign trade in the first half of the current 2025-26 fiscal year, followed by a continued rise in both exports and imports, the Department of Customs said on Wednesday.
The six-month report shows that total trade increased by 17.36 percent to 1.081 trillion Nepali rupees (7.42 billion U.S. dollars) between mid-July and mid-January. It stood at 921.15 billion rupees during the same period of the 2024-25 fiscal year.
Export volume reached 142.01 billion rupees, up from 98.78 billion rupees in the first half of the previous fiscal year. Imports, on the other hand, rose by 14.18 percent to 939.02 billion rupees from 822.37 billion rupees.
According to the department's report, India and China remain the top two trade partners of the South Asian country. (1 rupee equals 0.0069 U.S. dollar) ■
