COLOMBO, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka has obtained Interpol Red Notices against 95 criminals who are hiding overseas, a senior police officer announced on Friday.
Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler, media spokesperson of the Sri Lankan Police, said Sri Lanka repatriated 10 suspects through Red Notices in 2024 and 11 in 2025.
He said leaders of most organized criminal gangs now direct operations from overseas. However, law enforcement authorities have identified the whereabouts of many of these criminals, leading to the issuance of nearly 100 Red Notices.
As part of these operations, two male suspects and one female suspect were arrested overseas and returned to Sri Lanka on Thursday, he said.
Wootler said cracking down on organized crime and eradicating drugs are priorities of the police and the government. ■
