KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- A fire in Malaysia's Selangor state destroyed two factories and left three people dead, authorities said on Thursday.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the department had been notified of the fire on Wednesday night and that defensive firefighting operations were carried out due to explosions on the premises.

"Firebreak operations were successfully conducted to prevent the blaze from spreading to adjacent factories, and at about 1:15 a.m., the fire was also reported to have involved two additional factories, but it was successfully contained from spreading further," he said in a statement.

He added that three victims were found charred inside one of the destroyed factories, and their identities have yet to be identified.
