HANOI, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's southern hub Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday broke ground on its second metro line, spanning more than 11 km with a total investment of over 55 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 2.1 billion U.S. dollars), local daily VnExpress reported.
Running through 14 wards, the line starts at Ben Thanh station and ends at the Tham Luong depot.
Most of the route runs underground, with more than 9 km of tunnels, while the remainder consists of transition sections, elevated tracks and the depot access line.
The project is scheduled for completion by 2030.
Along with the Ben Thanh-Tham Luong line, the city aims to complete a number of other projects by 2030, expanding the total length of its urban railway network to 187 km. ■
