NEW DELHI, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Indian government on Wednesday urged its nationals to leave Iran and advised against travel to the country, citing the evolving security situation.
An advisory issued by the Indian embassy in Tehran urged nationals, including students, businessmen, pilgrims, and tourists, to leave the country by available means of transport, such as commercial flights, due to the evolving situation.
Deadly protests have rocked Iran over the past two weeks.
Reports said there are approximately 10,000 Indians in Iran, including many students. Apart from this, every year, thousands of Muslim pilgrims from different parts of India visit Iran. ■
