ASTANA, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan's freight transportation volume across all modes of transport increased by 7.9 percent in 2025 compared with the previous year, exceeding 1.1 billion tonnes, Kazinform reported on Wednesday citing the Bureau of National Statistics.
Freight carriers generated revenues of 5.7 trillion tenge (11.2 billion U.S. dollars), according to the bureau.
Rail transport accounted for the largest share of freight traffic, representing 40.1 percent of the total volume. In 2025, railways carried 466.7 million tonnes of cargo, up 6.8 percent year on year, with revenues reaching 2.2 trillion tenge.
Road transport handled 352.7 million tonnes of freight, generating 1.4 trillion tenge in revenues. Compared with the previous year, road freight volumes increased by 2.8 percent.
Pipeline transport accounted for 339.8 million tonnes of cargo, with revenues totaling 1.9 trillion tenge. Freight volumes rose by 15 percent year on year.
Air cargo volumes reached 30,100 tonnes, an 8.1 percent increase compared with 2024. Revenues from air freight services amounted to 18.9 billion tenge.
Freight turnover in 2025 totaled 584.3 billion tonne-kilometers, a 13.6 percent increase from the previous year. ■
