DHAKA, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's economy expanded by 4.5 percent in the first quarter of the current fiscal year from July 2025 to June 2026, supported by moderate growth across its key sectors.
Provisional data released Tuesday by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics show industrial output surged to 6.97 percent during the July-September period, a significant rise from 3.59 percent in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.
The services sector, which accounts for more than half of the economy, grew by 3.67 percent in Q1 of the current fiscal year, up from 2.96 percent a year earlier.
Agriculture, however, grew at a slower pace, recording 2.3 percent in the July-September quarter, up from 0.6 percent in the comparable period of the previous year.
The World Bank has projected Bangladesh's economy to grow by 4.8 percent in the current 2025-26 fiscal year, an increase from 4 percent growth recorded in the previous year. ■
