ALMATY, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 49 tons of various narcotics were seized in Kazakhstan in 2025, the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on Tuesday, citing Daniyar Meirkhan, chairman of the Committee on Combating Drug Crime.
Meirkhan said seizures of synthetic drugs totaled nearly 1.5 tons, preventing around 4.5 million single-use doses from reaching the illicit market.
A total of 4,000 drug crimes were prevented. Law enforcement agencies dismantled 128 drug laboratories, 28 of which were involved in the production of synthetic narcotics.
Since the introduction of administrative liability for non-medical drug use in March 2025, Kazakh authorities have recorded more than 6,000 such violations.
In September 2025, Kazakhstan enacted amendments to its criminal code explicitly outlawing so-called "money mule" schemes. Since then, 49 cases have been identified, including 35 cases linked to illicit drug trafficking, Meirkhan said. ■
