DHAKA, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh received 16.27 billion U.S. dollars in remittances in the first half of the current fiscal year from July 2025 to June 2026, an official said Tuesday.
Quoting official data, Arief Hossain Khan, spokesperson and executive director of the Bangladesh Bank (BB), told Xinhua that the "inflow of remittances from Bangladeshis increased by more than 18 percent year on year to 16,265 million dollars during the July-December period of the fiscal year 2025-26."
The BB official said the figure was recorded at 3.23 billion dollars in December alone, over 22 percent higher than a year earlier.
Remittances from millions of Bangladeshis hit an all-time high of over 30 billion dollars in the fiscal year 2024-25.
Remittance mainly comes from Middle East countries, such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. ■
