JAKARTA, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia said that Indonesia will stop importing diesel fuel for private gas stations starting in 2026, following the expansion of domestic refining capacity.
"Starting this year, I will no longer issue permits for diesel imports. From this year onward, there will be no more diesel import permits," Bahlil was quoted as saying by local media on Monday.
He said the suspension of diesel imports will also apply to private fuel filling stations. Any diesel cargoes still arriving in Indonesia in January or February would be part of the remaining imports approved in 2025, he added.
"But this year, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, on the order of President Prabowo Subianto, because we already have refineries in place, will no longer issue import permits," Bahlil said.
The refinery referred to is the Refinery Development Master Plan project at Refinery Unit V in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The project enables the refinery to process up to 360,000 barrels per day, equivalent to about 22-25 percent of national fuel demand. ■
