5 killed, several injured as blast hit police vehicle in NW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Five policemen were killed and several others injured in a bomb attack on a police vehicle in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province on Monday, police officials said.

The incident happened when an improvised explosive device exploded near an armored police vehicle in the Gomal area of Tank district of the province, according to the police officials in the area.

The police vehicle was destroyed, killing policemen, including a senior police officer, while injuring three passersby.

Following the blast, police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in the surroundings to arrest the culprits.

No group has claimed the attack yet.

Taking notice of the attack, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said that the terrorists cannot dampen the nation's morale as the country would continue its fight against terrorism.
