ISLAMABAD, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani security forces killed 11 militants in two separate intelligence-based operations in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military said on Saturday.
The security forces launched an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan district on Thursday following reports about the presence of militants in the area, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani army, said in a statement.
In another operation conducted jointly by police and security forces in Kurram district, five militants were killed in a separate gunfight, the ISPR added.
Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the killed militants, who were allegedly involved in attacks against security forces, law enforcement agencies and civilians, according to the statement.
The military said sanitization operations were continuing in the affected areas to eliminate any remaining militants. ■
