DHAKA, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and at least 15 were injured after a bus collided with a stationary truck in Bangladesh's Munshiganj district, some 37 km from the capital Dhaka, on Friday morning.
Md Abdul Hannan, officer-in-charge of local Sirajdikhan Police Station, told Xinhua over mobile phone that "one person was killed, and at least 15 others were injured in the road mishap."
He said the accident occurred around 5 a.m. as the bus on the Dhaka-bound lane of an expressway hit a stationary truck from behind at high speed.
Bangladesh has a high fatality rate for road accidents due to shoddy highways, poorly maintained vehicles, violation of traffic rules by inept drivers, and a lack of monitoring by the traffic department. ■
