SEOUL, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's tech giant LG Electronics logged a preliminary operating loss in the fourth quarter of 2025, a regulatory filing showed Friday.

LG's preliminary operating loss reached 109.4 billion won (75.3 million U.S. dollars) in the October-December quarter of 2025, swinging to a loss from an operating profit of 135.4 billion won (93.1 million dollars) a year earlier.

Preliminary revenue gained 4.8 percent over the year to 23.85 trillion won (16.4 billion dollars) in the fourth quarter.

For the whole year of 2025, the company's preliminary revenue grew 1.7 percent to hit a record high of 89.2 trillion won (61.4 billion dollars) compared to the previous year, but its preliminary operating profit dipped 27.5 percent to 2.48 trillion won (1.7 billion dollars).

The double-digit reduction was attributed to a slower-than-expected recovery in display-related demand and stiffer competition, which led to higher marketing costs.

In the second half of the year, the company suffered from non-recurring restructuring costs relevant to the voluntary retirement programs, LG explained.
