JAKARTA, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's per capita electricity consumption rose markedly in 2025, reflecting stronger economic activity and expanded access to power across the country, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said Thursday.
According to the ministry, electricity consumption per capita reached 1,584 kWh last year, exceeding the government's target of 1,464 kWh.
"This increase in electricity consumption indicates an improvement in economic activity and more equitable access to energy," said Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia at a press conference in Jakarta, adding that the rise has also been driven by the accelerated implementation of the national electrification program.
As demand continued to grow, Indonesia expanded its installed power generation capacity. In 2025 alone, total capacity increased by around 7 GW. Lahadalia said the country's installed power capacity rose from 100 GW to 107.51 GW.
"Based on our analysis, further efforts will be needed in 2026 to keep pace with the government's targeted economic growth," he said. ■
