KABUL, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed and 16 others injured in a series of traffic accidents in western Afghanistan's Herat province on Wednesday, local sources said on Thursday.
The accidents occurred along the Herat-Islam Qala highway. According to a statement from the provincial police, two separate traffic accidents happened when vehicles collided with other cars, killing five people, including a woman, on the spot.
Meanwhile, officials confirmed that an additional traffic accident in another part of the province also resulted in injuries to 16 people. In total, the incidents claimed five lives and left 16 others injured. ■
