BANGKOK, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's consumer confidence fell for the first time in four months in December 2025 as the dissolution of parliament and the conflict along the border with Cambodia weighed on sentiment, a survey showed on Thursday.

According to a survey of 2,242 respondents conducted by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the consumer confidence index dropped to 51.9 last month from 53.2 in November.

Lower agricultural prices compared to a year earlier contributed to the decline, as they affected purchasing power in some provincial areas in the near term, the university said in a statement.

Meanwhile, consumers were also concerned about the persistently high cost of living and the impact of floods in several provinces, along with the appreciation of the baht currency, the statement said.

Consumers are expected to remain cautious in their spending during the first quarter of this year, as they wait for greater clarity on the upcoming elections and potential economic stimulus policies from a new government, the university said.
