VIENTIANE, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) opened on Tuesday morning in the capital city.
In his opening address, Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the LPRP Central Committee and Lao president, described the congress as a major political event for both the Party and the country.
He emphasized that it would review the implementation of the 11th Party Congress resolutions and chart the course and policies for the Party and the country for the next five years.
The congress will continue for three days, concluding on Jan. 8. ■
