SEOUL, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's imported car sales logged a double-digit growth in 2025 thanks to strong demand for German luxury models and U.S. electric vehicles, industry data showed Tuesday.
The number of imported vehicles sold here jumped 16.7 percent from a year earlier to 307,377 in 2025, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).
In December last year, 28,608 foreign vehicles were sold here, up 21.6 percent year-on-year.
German automaker BMW ranked first in terms of automotive sales here among foreign companies by selling 77,127 units last year.
German carmaker Mercedes-Benz came next with the sale of 68,467 units, followed by U.S. automaker Tesla with 59,916 units, Volvo with 14,903 units, Lexus with 14,891 units and Audi with 11,001 units.
The number of European models sold here was 206,245 last year, taking up 67.1 percent of the total, while the U.S., Japanese and Chinese brands recorded the market shares of 22.3 percent, 8.7 percent and 2.0 percent each. ■
