MELBOURNE, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Australia recorded its fourth-warmest year in recorded history in 2025, with the average temperature in every month exceeding the long-term average, according to official data released on Monday.
The annual climate summary released by the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) showed that the national annual average temperature in 2025 was 1.23 degrees Celsius above the 1961-1990 average, making it Australia's fourth-warmest year since records began.
The climate summary said that the national average maximum temperature in 2025 was 1.48 degrees Celsius above the 1961-1990 average, the equal fourth-warmest on record.
The national average temperature for each month in 2025 was above the 1961-1990 average, with January, February, March and October all within the top five warmest on record for their respective months.
Warming in Australia is consistent with global trends, the BoM said. Australia's warmest year on record was 2019, when the annual average temperature was 1.51 degrees Celsius above the 1961-1990 average.
Meanwhile, the national average annual rainfall in 2025 was 7.8 percent above the 1961-1990 average. ■
