ISLAMABAD, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and eight others were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast followed by gunfire targeting a bus carrying laborers in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday, security sources said.
The incident occurred at around 6:45 a.m. local time (0145 GMT) in Lakki Marwat district, where unknown militants detonated the IED and opened fire on the bus carrying workers of a cement factory, the sources told Xinhua.
Rescue teams and security personnel rushed to the site and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital, the sources said.
Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the assailants, the sources said, adding that an investigation into the incident was underway.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack. ■
