KABUL, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Unknown armed men gunned down a local official in Aqcha district of northern Afghanistan's Jawzjan province on Sunday, district police chief Mawlawi Kafayatullah Sadaqat confirmed.
According to the official, two unknown armed men opened fire on the official in charge of Oshr and Zakat from Faizabad district while he was in Aqcha district at 4 p.m. local time on Sunday, killing him on the spot before fleeing the scene.
The district police chief added that police had arrested the culprits, cordoned off the area, and initiated an investigation into the incident. ■
