DHAKA, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Dense fog enveloped the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka on Friday, disrupting flight services to and from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
In a notice on Friday afternoon, the airport authority said that nine flights were rerouted for safety due to heavy fog.
Flight operations at the airport resumed at about 2:00 p.m. (local time) after a lengthy suspension of air traffic.
The fog was accompanied by icy winds, exacerbating the impact of a severe cold wave affecting Dhaka and other regions.
Omar Faruque, a meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, told Xinhua that the country's lowest temperature on Friday was recorded at 8.0 degrees Celsius in Jashore district, some 164 km from Dhaka. ■
