JAKARTA, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Authorities of Indonesia's Bali Island plan to tighten checks on foreign tourists starting 2026, including their financial capacity, length of stay, and planned activities, as part of efforts to promote quality tourism, Bali Governor I Wayan Koster was quoted by local media as saying on Friday.
Governor Koster said Bali's tourism governance would shift its focus from quantity to quality, in line with provincial regulations aimed at ensuring more sustainable and orderly tourism development.
To assess visitors' financial capacity, he said authorities would examine the balance of foreign tourists' savings accounts over the past three months.
"One aspect of quality tourism that needs to be considered is the amount of money in your savings account over the past three months," Koster said.
In addition to financial checks, Koster said foreign tourists entering Bali would also be required to provide information on the duration of their stay and the activities they plan to undertake during their visit.
According to the governor, Bali recorded 7.05 million foreign tourist arrivals by air and another 71,000 by sea in 2025. ■
