SYDNEY, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese citizen has been confirmed to have died at sea near Sydney, Australia, the Chinese Consulate-General in Sydney said on Friday.
The consulate said that it has maintained close contact with the parties concerned for active follow-up and assistance.
According to Australian media reports, on the early morning of Thursday, emergency services were alerted that the 25-year-old woman had been swept into the sea by a huge wave near Maroubra Beach, eastern Sydney. A multi-agency rescue team later found the woman, but she could not be revived. ■
